Mission Statement:
"Protect the Rights of All People, Ensure Public Order, and Provide for the Public's Safety Through Efficient Delivery of Law Enforcement Services as Well as Requiring the Highest Level of Professional Standards"
The Tallassee Police Department is a modern, progressive, full-service law enforcement agency.
Through teamwork and community involvement, our city's neighborhoods and businesses will be made safer places to live, work, and play. The community's involvement and active prevention of criminal activity stems from the leadership provided by all members of the Tallassee Police Department. As an organization that values integrity and mutual support, we will achieve a level of excellence making our department one that will make our citizens proud.
The police department is located at:
214 Barnett Boulevard
Tallassee, Alabama 36078 Telephone: (334) 283-6586 Police Explorer Post
Our Explorer's Post is open to all youth ages 14-20. Annual membership fee is only $10. Members are provided with uniforms and name badges. The Explorer Program serves to offer a hands-on learning experience in a particular career field, which in our case is Law Enforcement. Our Explorers ride with Officers; learn about the educational and physical requirements; observe various related career fields; participate in CPR, firearm safety, traffic/crowd control, and other similar classes; and help the Department with directing traffic, security at sports events, and the D.A.R.E. Program.
Explorers gain a unique perspective of Law Enforcement that can help them plan their future and direct their education. Exploring is not all work and no play! We also plan our own recreational activities which have included trips to the Alabama State Fair, movie theaters, bowling, the McWane Center for Scientific Exploration, the Auburn Water Park, and Busch Gardens. More great adventures are in the planning stages. To join, contact the Tallassee Police Department at (334) 283-6586.
Tallassee Housing Authority Patrol
The Tallassee Housing Authority Patrol (THAP) is a cooperative effort between the Tallassee Police Department (TPD) and the Tallassee Housing Authority. Tallassee's Housing Authority Patrol Officer conducts patrols of the public housing areas.
The Housing Authority Patrol Officer Scott Aldridge donates a lot of his time to ensure that tasks are completed and plans run smoothly, including Bike Safety Classes, coaching the Soccer Team, helping with inspections, investigating equipment and prices, meeting with residents to solve problems, etc.
The D.A.R.E. Officer assists the Housing Authority Patrol Officer in bike patrols, making ID kits for children to aid in finding missing children, chaperoning field trips, obtaining corporate sponsors, and providing other services as needed.
Our program is funded by a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), but as with many grants, it never covers everything so we all have to donate our time and services to even qualify for grant funds.
The Tallassee Police Department's D.A.R.E. program was implemented into Tallassee City School System in the 1998 school year. It is designed to give kids information on the dangers of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use. It also teaches them resistance techniques that they can use when pressured by peers to use these potentially dangerous drugs. We show them ways to calm their feelings when they get frustrated or upset without resorting to violence. The program is not designed to replace the good parenting that parents do with their children, but to reinforce/support that in which parents teach their children on a daily basis. When parents and citizens of the community keep up the good work, together we can all watch the children of Tallassee grow up healthy and successful in life.
Citizens Academy
Tallassee Police Department has graduated three annual Citizen's Academy classes to help educate Tallassee community residents on police operations and procedures. This voluntary program includes informative weekly training presentations about all the various facets of police work. Citizens attending the Academy are also offered the opportunity to ride along with officers on patrol and observe police operations firsthand. The program is enthusiastically received by those who attend.
