Skype

Skype is a program I recommend to anyone who has friends or family they'd like to talk to over the internet. Not only is it an instant messenger, you can use it to physically call anyone in the world free of charge. You use it to call computer to computer so speakers and a microphone are required and if these aren't built into your pc, a headset can be purchased just about anywhere for around $10

Class Of 81 Reunion PDF Print E-mail
Written by Richard
Wednesday, 30 April 2008

The class of 81 is having a reunion on Saturday, July 19th at Wind Creek State Park from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (all times are "ish"). Sadly, I arrive 2 weeks after it happens and will not be able to attend!

The Place:  Wind Creek State Park – Pavilion 1

Directions To Wind Creek State Park:    From Tallassee, take Hwy. 229 to Hwy. 63 (toward Kowlagia).  Turn right (toward Alex City) on 63 (Children’s Harbour Highway).  Go approximately 10 miles or so.  When you get near to Hwy. 128, you’ll see a sign saying the turn for Wind Creek State Park is coming up.  Turn right onto 128 and continue about 2 miles until you reach the entrance and registration for the Park.

Costs:

  • $10.00 per CLASSMATE ONLY to cover rental and administrative costs. You can mail this or you can pay at the reunion.
  • $3.00 entrance fee to the Park per person – children 6-11 $1.00 Pay entrance fee at the Gate
  • $4.00 for each use of boat ramp – i.e., per boat, jet ski, etc.

What To Bring:    Soozie’s husband, Darrell, has offered to cook enough Boston Butts for everyone; however, if you want another type of meat, then each family needs to bring their own meat to grill and a grill, if desired.  Also, each family needs to bring one or two “pot-luck” side dishes or desserts.  Remember this is a picnic, so the dishes must be able to withstand the heat or can be housed in your coolers.  Bring your own drinks, ice, cooler, etc.  NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED AT THE PARK.  Don’t forget water for re-hydration because of the heat.  There are picnic tables and benches, but bring your own chairs for a more comfortable seating, if desired.  Please bring your own table ware, serving ware, and condiments.

There are some grills for use at the park; however, they are charcoal.  If you choose to use one of these grills, then you’ll need to bring some charcoal.  There should be plenty of parking, but it’s divided up in sections so you may need to park in an overflow parking area and walk to the Pavilion.  The Pavilion we are renting is the one right next to the Silo.  Once you enter the Park, continue straight
until you get almost to the end of the peninsula area.  Pavilion 1 is located on the right next to the Silo.  You’ll pass the “beach swimming area” on the right where the volleyball net is located, and you’ll pass the fishing pier and boat slips on your left. Swimming is at your own risk as no lifeguards are provided.  Also, if anyone wants to get up a volleyball game, you’ll need to bring the volleyball.  There is a bath house for changing and facility use near the Pavilion as well as near the swimming area and fishing area.

If you need further directions or assistance on Park matters, you can call them directly at 256-329-0845.  They can also provide you with rates on boat and jet ski rentals if you are interested.

RAIN CONTINGENCY:  If it rains, we have rented the Friendship Community Center for the day and we will hold the Barbeque Reunion there.  Same time, all else applies.

REUNION EVENING OPTIONS:

1.    Street Dance:    Anyone interested can attend the Street Dance that night from 6:00 pm until Midnight.  It’s hosted by the Historical Society of Tallassee and is located on the street adjacent to the Talisi Hotel. The entrance fee is $12.00 per person and it’s BYOB (bring you own booze/beverage if you’re too old to remember).  You’ll also need to bring your own chairs for seating and a cooler, if needed.

2.    Night of Dancing and Cards/Games at the Friendship Community Center:    For those that want to forgo the Street Dance, we can meet back at the Community Center for Games and Dancing.  You would be able to bring your own alcohol.  No chairs required.

The Reunion Barbeque will be a blast so bring yourself on over for some long-overdue catching up.  We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!

Sonya Marble, Soozie Solomon Wilson & Lisa Butler Dunson

P.s.  Please make sure we have your CURRENT information – i.e., address, name changes, telephone numbers, etc., even if you are planning on NOT attending this reunion.  We’re looking into setting up a website for us to get new information out there on classmates….anyone interested in taking on the project and maintaining it?

PLEASE RSVP TO This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it OR P.O. BOX 240684, MONTGOMERY, AL  36124 OR 334-320-9075 ONLY IF YOU’RE COMING.  THANKS!
